Super-size portions lead to super-size people. Those with weight problems often
have a portion distortion problem. Our portion sizes in America have become bigger
and BIGGER over the years, and that’s why Americans are having weight problems.
- Bagel: A bagel used to be smaller – 3 inches in diameter and 140 calories.
Today, 6-inch bagels pack 350 calories. That’s not even including the cream
cheese, butter or jam.
- Spaghetti: Twenty years ago, a serving of spaghetti in a restaurant delivered 500
calories, but now a plate twice that size provides more than 1,000 calories.
- Cookie: A simple cookie (50 calories) has morphed into a huge cookie with a whopping
500 calories.
