A 2004 study revealed that more than 100,000 people in Hawai‘i are living
with diabetes. More than 250 million people worldwide have the disease. Diabetes
is considered the fourth leading cause of death in most developed countries.
The web site Unite
for Diabetes is dedicated to raising awareness about diabetes. The site
was launched as part of a global campaign led by the International Diabetes Federation
(IDF) to support the United Nations’ World Diabetes Day resolution. The United
Nations recently recognized the growing diabetes epidemic as a serous threat throughout
the world and declared the first annual World Diabetes Day on Nov. 14, 2007.
The site is filled with facts, figures and information on diabetes. Under the “Inspired
by Diabetes” link, you can find information on how to share your personal
diabetes story with the world to help increase awareness. You’ll also find
information on IDF’s Live for A Child program, a global initiative that offers
resources and education to children with diabetes in developing countries.
On the homepage, you can purchase a diabetes pin, read the UN’s resolution,
and download educational material such as logos, posters and flyers to help support
the campaign.

Diabetes to learn about what you can do to help.
We’d love to hear from you.
